There are numerous benefits to becoming a CASI Researcher. As an individual
scientist, engineer, or business professor in higher education, you
gain access to an organization tailored to create and maintain strong
working level relationships between academia and your possible customers
and sponsors in industry and government. Sponsored research existing
because of CASI has grown in only three years from less than $200,000
per year in the CY2000 to over $2,000,000 per year in CY2002. It started
in 1997 as an Oklahoma EPSCoR experiment and by 2001 had become an EPSCoR
"graduate" providing major new opportunities to the faculty
and staff of numerous higher education institutions.
New Research and Technical Needs
As a CASI Researcher, you will directly benefit from Center activity
to increase the mutual awareness between your community and the aviation
community. This activity is designed to show the aviation community
specific expertise, capabilities and facilities which can benefit aviation.
This activity is designed to show you of the CASI research community
the requirements and technical needs of the aviation community. Currently
CASI's scope is primarily maintenance, repair and overhaul needs of
the Air Force and FAA communities in Oklahoma, but CASI is continually
seeking opportunities to expand into other elements of aviation when
it is clear that CASI can make a big different in another area of aviation.
Over the past two years, CASI has developed close ties with several
entities in the aviation community. They are:
- US Government entitites (e.g., Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center,
FAA's Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center)
- Original Equipment Manufacturers (e.g, Boeing and Lockheed Martin)
- Major systems engineering and engineering support firms (e.g., CACI
and SAIC)
- Charitable trust (e.g., Battelle Memorial Institute)
- Leading small business constractors (e.g., MTC and SSAI)
CASI is not limited to relationships with these partners. As a State
of Oklahoma organization, the Center will continually seek out new teaming
and subcontract relationships with any element of the aviation community
that can contribute to the CASI research community, and is interested
in working with our faculty and students.

New Funding Opportunities
As a CASI Researcher, you would benefit from new funding opportunities
identified and secured by CASI senior leadership. These funding opportunities
emerge in large part because of the high quality and outstanding reputation
of researchers already in the consortium, as well as the efforts of
CASI leadership and the support of government and industry partners.
Streamlined "On Contract" Support
You would benefit from streamlined contract and financial arrangements
set up to enable rapid "on contract" status in days or weeks rather
than months. These arrangements are currently in existence with major
aviation support firms such as Boeing, CACI - ASG, Lockheed Martin,
MTC, SAIC, and SSAI.
In Depth Insight of Aviation Industry
Your work with the industry and government elements of the aviation
community will enable you to bring relevant experience and problem sets
into teaching your students. We are beginning to see students with CASI
related experience obtaining employment in the aviation community.
Summer Employment
CASI has sponsored several highly successful projects during summer
breaks of CY2000 through CY2002. We envision opportunities for more
professors students to work on existing problems during future summer.
Opportunities to Identify Promising
Areas for a Sabbatical Leaves
CASI also presents opportunities for interested faculty to work full
time with an aviation partner during sabbaticals.
